Tamarah never imagined she would…
discover a passion for digital literacy, digital citizenship, and being of service to children through teaching. She entered Tuskegee University as an Animal Science major with plans to become a Veterinarian, yet it was her deep emotional connection to animals that signaled she needed to change trajectories to a major that would preserve her emotional well-being.
After graduating from "Skegee" with her BA in English, she worked in the corporate world for five years until a merging of companies terminated her position. Four months later, Tamarah decided to follow her instinct and complete the necessary steps to become a Substitute Teacher in 2017. Her first teaching assignment was with City Arts and Technology High School in San Francisco (prepare for a big full circle moment at the end!). Through the power of social media, Tamarah's former Biology Teacher-turned-Principal of her alma mater, Leadership High School, reached out to see if Tamarah wanted to be hired part-time as an in-house Substitute Teacher.
In 2022, City Arts and Tech High School and Leadership High School merged and became City Arts and Leadership Academy! Who knew Tamarah's first teaching assignment and her high school alma mater would become one!
Since 2017, Tamarah has earned her post-baccalaureate Single Subject Credential in English Language Arts (2022) and Master of Science in Educational Technology (2023) degrees from California State University - East Bay.
Tamarah currently works full time as a 10th Grade ELA Educator. Her interests include, but are not limited to, MUSIC, educational equity, screenwriting, artificial intelligence, Hello Kitty, and animals. Her disinterests include student loans, musicals (ironically), and the hours of 6am-10am (she’s a self-declared nocturnal human).
